Alexander Grayson Bowman Diary

Manuscript of Alexander Grayson Bowman Diary, page 1

Union Corporal Alexander Grayson Bowman's holograph diary and certificates of promotion and discharge, with accompanying transcript and biographical material, provide a glimpse of military travel and camp conditions. These brief and factual diary entries consist of daily records of the march from Camp Union near San Francisco, CA on Oct. 18, 1861 until his mustering out of Franklin near El Paso, TX on Dec. 12, 1864, as well as Bowman's subsequent journey back to California on Feb. 12, 1865.
