Papers of Angela Hutchinson Hammer

Messenger Printing Company, Phoenix, AZ, circa 1940-1950

Angela Hutchinson Hammer (1870-1953) was an Arizona school teacher, journalist, and newspaper editor in Wickenburg, Casa Grande, and Phoenix. Hammer taught school in Wickenburg from 1889-90 and 1894-96, and in Gila Bend from 1893-94. She was also the owner of various newspaper and print shops, including the Wickenburg Miner which was purchased in 1905.

Collection includes autobiographical reminiscences, correspondence, and a short story relating to Hammer’s life in Arizona. Also included is a pencil sketch of Wickenburg School in 1890 and a photograph of the Messenger Printing Co. in Phoenix (1940-1950).
