Subject

Aerial bombings; Military training

Description

Mark 43 practice bombs. These were dropped by Navy planes as target practice. Each heavy, solid bomb body had a hole cored out that housed a specially made long blank shotgun shell which would fire a loud report when it struck the deck of the target ship. These are inscribed with "USS Arizona Turret One, 1931-1938" most likely by the donor.
