Custodia de San Carlos de Sonora

Francisco Antonio Barbastro (1734-1800) was a Franciscan priest, Father President of the Sonoran missions (1781-1783), and headed the ecclesiastical counteroffensive to Bishop Antonio de los Reyes' plan for the San Carlos "custodia." This was a new administrative district that would institute reforms in the Sonoran mission communities.

The collection contains a forty-page holographic manuscript that relates the history and description of the Franciscan custody of San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. The manuscript was written at the Aconchi Mission and was dated July 11, 1788.
