Diary of John C. Tidball

Lieutenant, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, John C. Tidball (1825-1906). Tidball accompanied Lt. A.W. Whipple on the 1853-1854 survey for a railroad route from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.

This collection includes a diary kept during the survey for a railroad route from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean in 1853-1854, and covers the period from Jan. 3-Feb. 20, 1854. Accompanied by a typescript and photocopy of the diary and Tidball's personal copy, presented by Whipple, of Vol. 3 of the published Report, annotated by Tidball.
