William W. Hunter was a pioneer and a participant of the California gold rush of 1849. The collection consists of his daily journal describing conditions and events of journey from Missouri through New Mexico and southern Arizona, to California, Apr. 23 to Dec. 6, 1849. Contains references to San Xavier del Bac, Tucson, AZ, and members of the Apache tribe. There are also tables of distances from various points, and a map on 4 separate sheets accompanied by a typed transcript.
