The King Danced in the Market Place

Frances Gillmor (1903-1993) was a folklorist, author, and educator on Spanish and Mexican folklore. She was a University of Arizona faculty member from 1928-1973.

This material relates to Aztec history and the life of Montezuma, a 15th century Aztec king. Materials consist of the offset publication of Frances Gillmor's original thesis for a Doctor of Letters degree submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1957. The original typescript with holograph notes and corrections, as well as the bibliography for the published version—which has an introduction and notes—are also included. Additionally, there are original drawings and tracings from Aztec codices, a Spanish summary of the books, genealogical diagrams for relatives of Moteczuma Ilhuicamina, and photographic negatives of Aztec drawings.
