The Story of Patchy

Patchy

The collection contains a typescript of an unpublished manuscript, with photographs, concerning the story of Apache May (Patchy), a young Apache girl found in May of 1896 in an abandoned Apache camp by John Slaughter, a Cochise County cattleman and former sheriff. She lived with the Slaughter family at their San Bernardino Ranch until her accidental death in 1900. Photographs are of Apache May at various ages, some with Viola Slaughter.
