Apr 4, 2013Remembering Hank Oyama, longtime civil-rights, bilingual-ed advocate in Tucson
Mar 29, 2013Civil-rights pioneer and longtime educator Henry "Hank" Oyama passed away at the age of 86 on March 19, 2013. Special Collections is home to the Henry "Hank" Oyama Papers, a collection containing personal papers relating to his pioneering work in bilingual education in the Tucson area. Of particular interest are documents that discuss his work in bilingual education at Pima Community College. Included in the collection are newspaper clippings, correspondence, bilingual education research, and conference papers.

Civil Rights in Arizona Lecture Series
Jan 15, 2013On August 28, 1963 thousands were drawn to the National Mall to be part of what would become a historic event: the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. On a national level, the march spurred the passing of important civil rights legislation. A new exhibit at Special Collections, 50 Years: Civil Rights in Arizona from 1963 to Today, reviews how, 50 years later, the fight for civil rights has impacted local Tucson communities.
Digitized Yearbooks Now Available
Nov 10, 2012The UA Special Collections has just completed a major digitization project, and now whole yearbooks dating back to 1903 are available to view online. The UA Yearbooks are available via the UA Campus Repository, which is managed by UA Libraries.
Special Collections Acquires Senator Jon Kyl's Congressional Papers
Oct 25, 2012Special Collections at the University of Arizona announces the acquisition of the congressional papers of Jon Kyl, U.S. Senator for Arizona.
Senator Kyl is serving his third and final term in the U.S. Senate after previously serving for eight years in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was elected unanimously by his colleagues in 2008 to serve as Republican Whip, the second-highest position in Senate Republican leadership.
Supporting Filmmaking as Storytelling
Oct 2, 2012The Ken Wolfgang & Kendra Gaines Library Endowment was established for the purpose of continuing the tradition of filmmaking as storytelling and cultural introduction. UA graduate students across disciplines who are studying film and associated material in UA Special Collections may apply for endowment support. Awards are granted for research and research-related activities conducted in the film and associated collections housed at UA Special Collections. Support the endowment.
