Title
Sonora: A Description of the Province
Description
A German Jesuit, Pfefferkorn (1725-1798[1]) spent eleven years among the Pima, Opata, and Eudeve inhabitants of northern New Spain until he was deported with the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767. Released from captivity when the elector of Cologne intervened with the King of Spain, he returned to Germany where he put together this remarkable historical and geographical memoir of northwestern Mexico, including present-day southern Arizona, along with descriptions of native people, climate, and natural history.
