Circus of Dr. Lao
Description
Finney (1905-1984), a proofreader for the Arizona Daily Star, produced one of the seminal works of fantasy fiction with this depression-era story of a Chinese traveling circus that magically appears in the sleepy town of Abalone, Arizona. Illustrated with drawings by the Russian artist Boris Artzybasheff, the book conjures up a surreal world in which fabulous creatures challenge the complacency of ordinary mortals. Parables are told and lessons are learned (or not).
