Digitization Day 2017

The first Community Digitization Day took place on March 4, 2017 from 9-5pm at Special Collections. Members of the community were invited to bring in up to ten items to have scanned for free by preservation specialists. Participants were able to keep their originals as well as took home a USB drive with digital copies of the images and documents. Samples of preservation materials and directions on how to properly care for historical artifacts were also offered to members of the public.

Guest speakers at the event included: University of Arizona Libraries’ Katheryne B. Willock Director of Special Collections, Steve Hussman, who offered remarks about the responsibility archives have to care for our historical record. 

Representatives from local community archives included: Jae Gutierrez, Arther J. Bell Senior Photograph Conservator of the Center for Creative Photography, who hosted workshops throughout the day on how to preserve photographs.
