Interview with Dario Ramirez Salazar

Dario Ramirez discusses his organization (Articulo 19) and their greatest challenge: advocating for the protection of journalists and for transparency. Ramirez discusses the issue of freedom of expression, how journalists are being silenced due by threats of violence, and how impunity has become more common than ever in Mexico. Ramirez goes on to argue that despite the widespread corruption in the public sector and a failure to protect those who are being threatened, there is still a shared responsibility between government and major media outlets to defend the freedom of press and denounce corruption and impunity.

Darío Ramírez habla de su organización, Artículo 19, y de sus mayores desafíos, entre ellos la protección a periodistas y la transparencia. Ramírez discute el tema de la libertad de prensa, como es que los periodistas están siendo silenciados por causa de la violencia ejercida en ellos, y el hecho de que la impunidad se ha vuelto más común que nunca en México. Ramírez sostiene que, a pesar de la corrupción en el sector público y la falta de protección de aquellos que se ven amenazados, aún continúa vigente la responsabilidad compartida entre el gobierno y los principales medios de la comunicación a defender la libertad de prensa y a denunciar la corrupción y la impunidad.
