Special Collections is located on the southwest corner of University Blvd. and Cherry Ave., next door to the Main Library Starbucks. 

Visitor parking is available at the Cherry Avenue Garage located just east of the library. See garage rates and garage schedules. There are also metered parking spots on Cherry Ave. just north of Fourth St.

Do you need an appointment?

You don't need an appointment to visit Special Collections. Everyone is welcome during our open hours.

If you're traveling to visit us, you can ask us a research question and share your research interests ahead of time to help us better prepare for your visit.

Prepare for your visit

Here are a few things you should know that can help make the most of your visit:

  • Bring your photo ID when you visit to access materials in our reading room.
  • It takes time for our staff to get materials from the climate-controlled spaces in our building. We appreciate your patience.
  • We are a quiet but not silent space. The reading room is a space of active work and research.
  • Our materials require special handling, care and security. During your visit, we will guide you on how to safely use materials.
  • Watch our 3-minute video tutorial before you come to Special Collections to learn how to get the most from your visit.

  • Help you use our search and reference tools
  • Recommend collections and materials relevant to your research
  • Assist with the technology in our space, including computers, the microfilm reader, and self-service scanner
  • Explain how to properly handle and care for our collections

You can request duplications and permission to publish our materials.

You can also use a personal digital camera or our self-service scanner to copy unrestricted materials in our reading room for individual study or research.
